The purpose of this study was to investigate (1) intergenerational transmission from maternal attachment representation to children¡¯s attachment pattern and (2) the relatedness between maternal attachment representation and maternal caregiving behaviors. The subjects consisted of fifty children aged between eight and nine and their mothers of thirties. The Adult Attachment Interview was used to assess maternal attachment representation. The Manchester Child Attachment Story was used to classify children¡¯s attachment relationship. As a result, exact agreement between maternal attachment representation and children¡¯s attachment pattern was observed in 21 of 30 dyads(70%). Maternal caregiving behaviors(maternal sensitivity, self care, conflicted behavior) were related to maternal attachment representation.
